With a big snowstorm last night into this morning, nobody knew what the turnout would be for the first ever Berwick Winter Farmer’s Market. Due to great marketing efforts on the part of the Downtown Vision Committee, specifically Jessica Sheldon and the Sustainability Committee, the turnout was great and the market a huge success.
I was out showing houses this morning and couldn’t make it there at 10, but when I arrived at noon, the place was hopping! I stopped around to a couple of tables to check out the goods and then started shopping. There was everything from local art to cheeses, breads, meat and vegetables available. In addition, local artisans selling yarns and soaps and everything in between.
I picked up some beautiful eggs as well as some fresh veggies and locally grown dried beans for soup. We sampled soups from The Soup Guy and left with some potato leek and mushroom corn chowder- YUM! One of our favorite local brewpubs, Leaven was there but had already sold out of everything they brought. At each table I asked how the turnout was and got a positive response all around. I was proud of my little community for coming out to support this event.
